Singing Vocal Techniques Lecturer
Kirsty Campbell-Robertson graduated with a BEd (Hons) in Music in 2003 where she was taught piano and voice by Bob Howie and Jean Webster, respectively. During her thirteen years of teaching she has taught music to pupils of all ages – from 3 to 18 and so has valuable knowledge and experience of music education in schools. After ten years teaching at Bucksburn Academy where she ran very successful extra-curricular Steel Pan groups Kirsty became Faculty Head of Expressive Arts at Portlethen Academy in 2014.
As a student at Northern College of Education and Aberdeen University, Kirsty performed in the theatre pit for many productions by The Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Treading the Boards and In-House Productions. She also taught strings at Aberdeenshire Music Centre (south) for two years and conducted The Learig Orchestra. Upon graduating, Kirsty was selected to teach composition at Austin Chamber Music Centre in Texas for a summer and won a postgraduate scholarship to study Composition at Aberdeen University.
Kirsty’s first experience of being Musical Director was with Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts in 2009 for The Wizard of Oz. She has since been involved with Our House (2010) and was MD for Peter Pan (June 2011), Seussical the Musical MD (June 2012) and Cats MD (June 2013). Kirsty has been teaching Musical Theatre singing classes at AAPA for four years now and since the approval of SQA status at AAPA, she has been teaching on the HNC and HND Musical Theatre course whilst herself working towards her LTCL in Musical Theatre teaching.
Kirsty also started working with Aberdeen Opera Company as rehearsal pianist in 2012 (Drowsy Chaperone), assistant MD 2013 (Some Enchanted Evening), MD for Brit Pop-era Summer show 2013 and is to be MD for their 2014 Summer Show. At the same time as her work for AOC, she was rehearsal pianist for BUZZ Musical Theatre Company in Inverurie for their 2012 production of Sound of Music and then went on to MD their 2013 production of A Christmas Carol.
More recently, Kirsty has developed the Skills for Singing Unit for the HNC/HND Musical Theatre course at AAPA working in partnership with Ross Campbell from Royal Academy Music, London.
